Videos are now way better 🎬

Hey everyone — we just pushed a big update focused on making videos feel smooth, responsive, and reliable across both the iOS app and the web.

Please update to version 1, build 13 to get these fixes.

What was broken

• Videos in the feed sometimes appeared as black boxes when you opened the app, especially right after a cold start.
• Scrolling through the feed when it had lots of videos felt laggy and janky.
• Reels could take a moment to show the first frame when you swiped to the next video.
• If you opened a video in Reels while one was already playing somewhere else, two videos would play at the same time with overlapping audio.
• Going back from a video to the feed would sometimes leave audio playing in the background.
• When creating a post and picking a video from your library, the preview showed up as a grey box instead of the actual video.

What we fixed

🎞️ No more black-box videos

Your phone can only run a limited number of videos at once before it silently gives up and shows black. We now keep that number small and predictable, so you always see the actual video, never a blank rectangle.

🪶 Smoother scrolling

Videos in the feed only load when they're about to appear on screen. Scrolling past a long list of video posts no longer makes your phone work overtime.

⚡ Faster Reels

Reels now uses a player pool (the same trick TikTok and Instagram use under the hood): the previous, current, and next videos stay warm and ready, so swiping to the next video shows a frame almost instantly.

🔊 One video at a time

We added a global "audio traffic cop" so only one video can be playing audibly across the whole app at any given moment. No more double audio.

🎥 Video previews in post creation

When you pick a video to upload, you now see an actual preview of the video — not a grey placeholder.

🌐 Web improvements

• Faster initial video load — starts at lower quality, climbs up as your bandwidth allows.
• Fixed a memory leak where old videos would pile up as you scrolled past them.
• Poster images show first, then the video fades in smoothly.
